A trailer for ‘Escape’, purportedly one of the first games designed for Google Glass has appeared on Youtube.

But beyond the novelty factor, is there much possibility of this game finding a substantial fan base? The prospect of being able to play games on a wearable computer has a certain sci-fi appeal but the software itself isn’t exactly mind blowing. The short clip that’s available shows a very basic interface,   more reminiscent of early 2000’s features phones than the glossy 3D graphics we’ve all become accustomed to.

Google Glass certainly has the potential to provide some incredible and innovative gaming experiences by taking advantage of the augmented reality technology of the device, but even games like this would still have to deal with the practical issue of a control interface. Much of the appeal of mobile gaming goes right out the window when it becomes impossible to play privately in a crowded public space, and if Google Glass requires voice commands to control the game then that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

But what do you think? Is Google Glass the future of gaming, or is the conventional smartphone the real home of mobile gaming?
