WATCH: This video shows that the LG G3 could be water-resistant after all

Warning: Don’t try this at home with your high-end LG G3 smartphone!

Recent flagship smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2, have come equipped with IP67 ratings that attest to their superior water-resistance.

Therefore, it came as a surprise when LG decided to release its own flagship, the G3, without the same rating and resistance factor.

Well, it turns out that the LG G3 may be more durable than we once thought.

A surprising (and rather scary, judging by the device’s £499 price tag) new video sets out to prove that the LG G3 is a tough son of a gun when it comes to water resistance.

The clip form Harris Caycraft (aka TechWorld11) puts the LG G3 through a long and varied water test – much like we would do with a device that actually claimed to be water resistant!

In the video you can see above, the G3 is reportedly underwater for approximately two hours and actually manages to surface completely unscathed.

LG has never officially stated that the G3 has any water-resistant properties, so this is a miraculous discovery to say the least. However, we wouldn’t advise you to try the same with your device.

With no rubber seals to protect the internal components of the handset, some water made it in to the phone, but even that didn’t seem to affect the device.

Harris noted that after the test he did remove the back cover and battery and place the device in a bowl of rice to soak up the excess water. Even with that in mind, it was clear that the G3 was in perfect working order when he removed it from the sink.

Again, we would like to reiterate that this could be a one-off scenario, so don’t try this at home – unless, of course, you don’t mind breaking your handset. Nonetheless, it’s an impressive video.
