
Research by a team from the University of Waterloo in Canada suggests that one of the best ways to quit smoking is social media.
Yep, you heard that right. If you want to quit smoking, head over to Facebook and waste precious hours of your life browsing pages upon pages of junk. The study compared social media with different public health campaigns and the results were surprising.
After just three months, 32% of smokers who used the Break It Off app and web tools such as Facebook had dropped the habit, compared to just 14% who used traditional telephone-based support.
The study targeted the 19-24 age group in Canada, where 91% of smokers use Facebook and 33% use Twitter.
