The Surface RT was much complained about, but Microsoft hopes that its latest offering, the Surface 2, can rectify all those mistakes.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Surface 2 is the gorgeous new full HD display, which is a noticeable step up from the 1,366 x 768 of the previous generation.

The Surface 2 will come in white, and feature a USB 3.0 port rather than the standard USB 2.0 found on the Surface RT.

Microsoft claims that the Surface 2 is three to four times faster than its predecessor, thanks to a notable spec boost.

It’s not all about speed and performance though, with Microsoft making the battery last 25 percent longer and even bring along the new kickstand from the Surface Pro 2.

The Surface 2 has received an additional port compared to its predecessor also, with a HDMI port on-board, meaning you can plug this into your big screen with absolute ease.

The design is pretty much identical, although it’s thinner, lighter and built from two pieces of magnesium rather than the three on the Surface RT.

When you buy a Surface 2 or Pro 2 you will get one years worth of free international Skype calling and free Skype hotspot WiFi, as well as 200GB of SkyDrive storage for two years.

The Surface 2 will be available in the US, UK and other Surface markets from October 22 and will be available for pre-order tomorrow. Pricing currently set at $449 for the 32GB model.
