The Surface Pro 2 is finally official, and it’s supposedly a substantial upgrade to the PC/Tablet hybrid Microsoft unveiled last year at a secret press event.
Microsoft isn’t positioning this as a tablet though, that’s for the Surface RT, instead Microsoft are claiming that this is a fully fledged Windows 8 PC — capable of any task you can throw at it.
The original Surface Pro was already an incredibly versatile device, but many people had complained about the appalling battery life — which was due to the Surface Pro using a last-generation Intel processor.
Now Microsoft has managed to pack in a Haswell processor, which supposedly makes the Surface Pro 2 faster than 95 percent of laptops on the market, and have a 75 percent bump in battery life when compared to the previous generation.
Many people also moaned about the rigid kickstand, which only had a single position, now however Microsoft is giving the kickstand two positions, with the new position being a cool 22 degrees — ideal for those who are a little shorter.
If you’re still not satisfied with the battery life, then don’t worry about that either — there’s a new power cover which should boost the battery by around 2.5 times, meaning you won’t need to stay tethered to the wall.
On the removable docking station there’s a plethora of ports, including three USB 2.0 sockets, one USB 3.0, a mini DisplayPort, Ethernet, Audio In, Audio Out and a slot for you power adapter.
The Surface Pro 2 will be available in the US, UK and other Surface markets from October 22 and will be available for pre-order tomorrow. Pricing currently set at $899.
