Sony-made Windows Phone inbound?

You wouldn’t expect Sony and Microsoft to be working together right now. Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One are just starting a long and no doubt bloody battle for console supremecy, but over in the phone industry the two might be about to get in bed together with a Sony-made Windows Phone.

The rumour comes from The Information, which claims to have a source that was involved in talks for such a device and another that’s briefed about it. Apparently the handset is part of Microsoft’s push to ramp up Windows Phone support and could be releasing mid-2014.

Apparently this handset wouldn’t be part of the Xperia brand but instead the VAIO line. Microsoft could also be pushing for ZTE to join its supported roster.

If true then we doubt we’d see the kit at CES next week, given the later release date. It would certainly be a plus for Microsoft to get a big name manufacturer under its belt. Even if the Xbox One takes a little offence.

Would you be interested in a Sony-made Windows Phone?
