OnePlus 3 price increase due to Brexit

There will be a OnePlus 3 price increase as co-founder Carl Pei states the weakening of the Pound against the dollar, and the recent UK referendum result.

Pei made the announcement through a blog post, stating a “downward trend for the Pound against the USD over the past two years.” The price point has always been the biggest selling point for OnePlus devices, but now sadly OnePlus cannot hold off any longer, with the UK’s democratic decision to leave the EU, being the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Pei said: “the Brexit decision has forced us to re-evaluate the OnePlus 3’s pricing in the UK at a time of significant demand.”

Many manufacturers in the far east including rivals Xiaomi, work on razor thin margins, relying entirely on selling huge numbers of devices to turn a profit. OnePlus are still relatively new to the smartphone game, so their decision is justifiable.

When and how much?

Pei adds: “we’re reluctantly going to have make some small changes to our pricing structure for the device.” From July 11th onwards (Monday) the OnePlus 3 will go from £309 to £329 in the UK.

The silver lining is pay day for most was just last week and there is still six days to order a OnePlus 3 before the new pricing comes in to effect. Accessories and older devices will not see an increase in price, as it will only affect the OnePlus 3.

For £329 you would still be picking up one of the best value for money smartphones on the market. The OnePlus 3 uses a Snapdragon 820 and a “flagship killer” 6GB of RAM under the hood.

The display is only FHD 1080p, measuring at 5.5-inches using Samsung’s AMOLED technology. Recently OnePlus rolled out a update, giving the display sRGB, to improved on the lacklustre first impressions it was met with. Out of the box the OnePlus 3 runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow, refreshingly close to stock Android.

OnePlus improved on the camera, using a Sony sensor this time around with a f/2.0 aperture. Its a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with a 8-megapixel front-facing selfie camera.

Whether Brexit will result in similar OnePlus 3 price increase scenarios, remains to be seen.
