Moto X official, not coming to the UK

The Moto X has been the most leaked device in the history of leaked devices, but at least it’s now finally official — that is if you live in the US.

Those of you who had hoped that Motorola’s newest device will be hitting British shores will unfortunately find that the Moto X is a US exclusive, at least for now.

Motorola has said that the Moto X’s exclusivity “doesn’t mean that Europe is not a key priority” and that it is just the start of an “exciting” new product portfolio.

As for US customers you’ll be treated with an extortionately priced device, with many people already criticising the $199 price with a 2 year contract.

If you’re hoping to pick this up off contract, then you’ll also be out of luck with no device only prices being announced.

Now if that sounds good to you, then you’ll be getting quite a lot, with a 4.7-inch 720p AMOLED display and 2GB of RAM — all assembled in the USA.

The thing that makes the Moto X truly special though is the way that you can design it yourself — with 18 different materials on offer, including real wood.

According to Motorola there are 2,000 possibilities to customise the device, when the choice of 16GB and 32GB handsets are taken into account.

That is really the major differentiator with the Moto X, with it being very similar internally as Motorola’s other newly released DROID lineup with Verizon.

The processor is the dual-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro and the GPU is the Adreno 320.

It also has a 10-megapixel rear camera, as well as a 2-megapixel font facing one — which, as predicted, are both capable of shooting 1080p video.

In fact most of the predictions we made yesterday have turned out to be correct, with the software shipping with the Moto X being Android 4.2.2 rather than the much newer Android 4.3 — a surprise given Motorola is a Google company.

The always listening microphone will be baked into the software though, so those NSA conspiracy theorists may not want to pick one of these up, and you’ll also get the new camera interface that was introduced on the Droid family of devices.

If all this sounds good to you, then you won’t have to wait much longer with Motorola aiming to ship the device in late August/early September.

You will have to wait 4-5 days between ordering and receiving the device from the company’s MotoMaker website though.
