Whilst we might not all be switching to mobile payments as quickly as some companies may hope, with Google, Microsoft and more all trying to edge get us into a wallet-less world, it seems only one company is having roaring success ‘ Starbucks.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the coffee chain’s US customers have overwhelmingly adopted mobile transactions, with up to 10% of them using the company’s iOS and Android app to pay for their food and beverages.
Starbucks has made it easy for customers to pay by mobile though, with its apps not the only option, as the company partnered with mobile payments specialist Square last year, to allow customers to pay with their debit or credit cards directly through the “Pay with Square” app.
Of course whilst it may be easy for Starbucks to bring mobile payments to a larger crowd, its customer base are generally more tech savvy, so this kind of technology may not translate directly into other stores.
