If you’re looking at the headline and wondering who KAZAM are, then we’re beginning to wonder where you’ve been the past six months, with KAZAM being the brand headed by two former HTC execs to bolster UK manufacturing, and in the company’s own words — “disrupt the status quo”.
KAZAM is all set to begin disrupting the industry as of today, launching two new device ranges with a whole host of different variants. If we were to be honest, we’d say it even confuses us the huge range of products that Kazam has on offer, with five different variants for the Trooper range and two variants for the Thunder range.
Of these ranges KAZAM Thunder seems to be the most enticing, with it specifically designed “for technology fans”. The range is made up by the KAZAM Thunder Q4.5 and Thunder Q5.0 — with the Q4.5 the only device we actually know much about right now.
On the other side of the fence is the five Trooper devices, with names ranging from X3.5 and then in 0.5 increments all the way to X5.5. We’re not sure we quite understand the reason for the naming scheme, although we do know that the numbers equate to the screen size.
UK availability and pricing has yet to be announced.
KAZAM Trooper X3.5
At the bottom of the pile is the KAZAM Troper X3.5, which is the smallest of all the devices announced. The phone comes in dark blue, white or black and as the name would suggest, comes with a 3.5-inch TFT display.
The resolution is a little lower than we would like at just 320 x 480, and with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on-board, it’s nothing entirely special nor new. One of the things that KAZAM really is pushing is the existence of dual-SIM, which is convenient when in another country or just want to use more than one carrier to ensure you get the best price.
Internal specifications are a little unimpressive with a 1GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. This device seems to be the lowest of the low-end, but it does come with some advantages — with free screen replacement no matter the damage for the first 12 months. It’ll also be super simple to setup, with KAZAM offering remote assistance if you have a problem with setting the phone up.
KAZAM Trooper X4.0
Like the KAZAM Trooper X3.5, the X4.0 features a 1GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of storage and 512MB of RAM. It also has the exact same 5MP rear-facing camera, and Android 4.2 operating system.
The major difference here is the slightly larger 4-inch TFT display, with a modest bump in resolution too — topping out at 480 x 800.
KAZAM Trooper X4.5
The Kazam Trooper X4.5 is essentially the same phone as the other devices in the line, but with a slightly larger 1750mAh battery, which was presumably put in to power the larger 4.5-inch screen, which has now been upgraded to an IPS panel with a resolution of 480 x 854, as well as the 1.2GHz dual-core processor. Otherwise, it’s the exact same phone.
KAZAM Trooper X5.0
You may begin seeing a trend here, but the Trooper X5.0 is identical to the other phones in the line apart from its 2000mAh battery and 5-inch FWVGA display — the resolution stays the same as the X4.5 though, as does everything else.
KAZAM Trooper X5.5
At the top of the Trooper line is the X5.5, which is actually identical in every way to the Trooper X5.0, except for its 5.5-inch display and 2500mAh battery.
KAZAM Thunder Q4.5
Despite being for ‘technology fans’ the KAZAM Thunder Q4.5 isn’t going to blow you away if you’re looking for octa-core processors and 3GB of RAM — but it is a rather modest start from the new company, and remember you still get all those advantages we mentioned earlier — including dual-SIM, remote access and one free screen replacement.
The phone is essentially an upgraded Trooper X4.5, with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel camera. You also get a front-facing snapper with a resolution of 2-megapixels
The battery is slightly larger than the X4.5, with a 1800mAh removable battery, but other than that — everything else is the same, except the Thunder name of course.
