FaceTime will be getting a substantial upgrade in Apple iOS 9, as developers continue to unravel secrets from the recent beta release.

The recent iOS 9 beta has revealed some tantalising treats that might be in store for Apple’s upcoming mobile operating system. Amongst them, developer Hamza Hood has burrowed through the code and managed to uncover some interesting facts relating to the FaceTime camera.

The service will support full 1080p video and high speed capture at up to 240fps in 720p. It will also finally carry front-facing flash support and even be able to take panoramas. With selfies all the rage these days, it makes sense for Apple to start including these features.

While most people don’t usually buy a phone on the merits of the front-facing camera, it’s nice to see them upgrading features in areas outside of the target specifications. Front-facing camera technology is neglected far too often and their usage is only increasing.

If Apple successfully combines this with their recently acquired LinX technology, the iPhone 6S could well have the best front-facng camera on the market.
