Honor 7 will offer iPhone-like security on a budget

Honor is set to add the Honor 7 to its phone range in coming weeks.

A new teaser made by the Chinese manufacturer includes the number seven with a June 30 launch date. The number sits at the centre of a scanner design with a fingerprint beneath it. This suggests that the Honor 7 will get a fingerprint sensor. This is the first mention of the feature directly from Honor. Rumours about a fingerprint sensor have been floating around from Chinese TENAA certifications for a while now. If the rumours are true, then it joins the Samsung Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6 in a lineup of fingerprint sensor equipped devices.

The phone may also run Emotion UI 3.0; Huawei’s own user interface based on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Early leaks have also suggested that the Honor 7 will get a 5-inch screen with 1080p resolution and a pixel density of 441ppi. Look beneath its body and you may find a Kirin 935 chipset with an octa-core CPU, 3GB of RAM, 3280mAh battery, 16GB of internal storage and a 13MP camera with optical image stabilisation.

Other rumours suggest that two versions of the Honor 7 are being released. Both versions will share the same hardware and design, with storage and RAM being the main difference between the two. The cheaper version of the two may come with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Huawei may equip the more expensive version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

If the Honor 7 is anything like the Honor 6+, then it’ll be a very good phone. We were particularly impressed by the 6+’s excellent dual rear cameras, which allows you to modify the focus of a photograph after it’s been taken and create some really nifty looking effects.

Stay with us in two weeks where we’ll see the phone properly and have more news on availability and pricing.
