Buy Destiny for last-gen consoles and get an upgrade to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One for free!

This is a tough time of year for the hesitant gamer. You’re still having a great time gaming on your Xbox 360 or PS3, but Christmas is approaching, which means only one thing: a whole host of new titles for the Xbox One and PS4. Do you upgrade? What about if you’ve already decided to upgrade – then you’ve got to wait months before you can experience titles like Destiny, which are out on current and last gen. No one wants to buy the same titles twice, and absolutely no one wants to wait to play one of the biggest releases of the year.

If this sums up your situation, fear not: Bungie and Activision have got you covered. In a remarkably generous display of altruism, if you purchase Destiny for either PS3 or Xbox 360 you’ll be able to upgrade to the PS4 or Xbox One version for free. That’s entirely gratis, zero charge. Problem solved.

There’s only two catches, if you can call them that: one, you have to upgrade to the next iteration of the console of your choice. That’s PS3 to PS4, and Xbox 360 to Xbox One. If you planning on swapping sides then you’ll miss out.

The second is that you get a digital download code – not a disc copy. It’s 2014, though, you’re probably fine with that. Plus, you shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth and all that.

Just when you thought the deal couldn’t get any sweeter, it has also been confirmed that the last generation copy of your game will continue to work after you upgrade! Exactly what there is to stop you purchasing the game with a friend who has the older/newer version of your console and essentially getting two for the price of one is unclear at this point… not that we’d ever endorse taking advantage of a major corporation’s kindness in such a way or anything like that.

The offer’s clearly been put on the table with the inevitable Christmas surge in console upgrades in mind, as all upgrades have to be claimed by January 15th – so don’t get caught out.

All progress made on your last-gen game will be transferred to your upgraded copy too, so long as you keep the same Xbox Live Gamertag/PlayStation Network ID. All DLC is transferrable, too.

Destiny lands September 9th on all platforms, so get ready – you’ve got no excuse not to get involved now.
