A new Apple patent for a triple lens, triple sensor iPhone Camera that will offer better colour accuracy and higher quality images has been revealed.

Techcrunch reported today that the technology giant has developed a system using three separate lenses and three separate sensors to improve colour accuracy and image resolution.

The new technology would make use of one light sensor and two colour sensors. The latter would be able to make up for any potential blind spots a single sensor might encounter and provide accurate colour capture and more data for the camera to work with, the net effect being better quality images.

Along with last week’s news of another Apple patent for a dual image capture technology that would allow iPhones to take two simultaneous images to compensate for flaws in either, it seems clear that Apple are investing in the image capture side of their range. With the recent release of the Lumia 1020 and it’s whopping 41 megapixel camera it looks like Apple are looking to raise their game behind the lens.

But despite a recent focus on image capture technology Apple haven’t been neglecting other aspects of R&D. Another Apple patent hit the headlines not long ago, seemingly related to their much rumoured iWatch project.
