It’s not even been a month since we reported that Jelly Bean as a whole had finally become the most popular flavour of Android, and now we have even better news — Android Jelly Bean 4.1 is now the most popular version.
Last month Android 2.3 Gingerbread still commanded a small lead, but after dropping over a percent in usage 4.1 is now on top.
There is still a stark problem with fragmentation though, with 4.1 already being two versions behind the latest update — 4.3.
Google is trying to bring manufacturers up to speed with the latest version of the operating system though, slowing down its release schedule so OEMs have a chance to catch up with Google’s pace.
The largest issue with Android’s fragmentation is typically the custom-made skins, which require recoding to fit in the new features with every update.
With Android 4.3 only adding small changes, Google is hoping that companies can have a quicker turnaround.
For major features Google is making sure that no matter what OS you’re on you can gain access, with Google Play Games being delivered as an app rather than baked into the OS.
