North Korean tablet gets access to Angry Birds, but no internet

We never thought we’d see a review of a North Korean tablet, but that’s exactly what we’ve seen today — with NorthKoreaTech giving the Samjiyon the full review treatment.

According to the reviewer, known just as “Michael” (creepy we know), the device is “surprisingly impressive.”

The device itself doesn’t have WiFi, so there’s no connecting to the internet, although there is a TV antenna — which makes the Samjiyon the perfect content consumption device.

In terms of specs the North Koreans seemingly know how to build a tablet, adding a better processor than South Korean tech juggernaut Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 2 7″, with a 1.2GHz processor as opposed to Samsung’s 1GHz.

There’s also a whole GB of RAM in there, which we still don’t see on all modern day tablets — especially ones in the $200 range.

If you’re wondering what OS could this tablet be running on, well wonder no more as it’s running Android 4.04 Ice Cream Sandwich — come on Kim, where’s the Jelly Bean?

Now an Android is not much use without any internet to download all those apps, but don’t worry you get tons of software preinstalled.

If Angry Birds is your creed, then you’ll get a special North Korean version — although we’re not sure if Rovio allowed this or not.

Other app favourites such as Korean Chess and books about Kim Il Sung’s childhood are present so you’ll never get bored.

Whilst there isn’t any WiFi connectivity or internet access, you do have a web browser which will allow you to connect to the country’s intranet — with sites such as the Korean Central News Agency and the Grand People’s Study House available.
