It’s time for some more facts and figures.Nielsen’s Q3 mobile report has revealed that nearly 65 percent of US phone owners use a smartphone. Specifically, it’s at 64.7 percent. Take that, feature phones.

The analytics company’s report confirmed a few more interesting tidbits. Firstly, 70 percent of mobile usage in the 13 to 17 age range is done with a smartphone. The same quarter last year was at 58 percent, so this is a pretty sharp increase. In the 18 to 24 age range a further 79 percent use smartphones. Combine those two and the rest and you arrive that the 64.7 figure.

Unsurprisingly the Android OS retains its lead market share with 52 percent. iOS comes in a relatively close second with 41 percent, while BlackBerry, Windows Phones and other systems gobble up the crumbs that remain. Despite this, Nielsen reports that Apple phones themselves take up the manufacturer market share at 41 percent. Samsung trail behind at 26 percent.

We’ve got two of two of the company’s graphs below, should you need more detail. No doubt that 65 percent figure will have risen again by this time next year.
