French manufacturer announces flagship Wiko U Feel Prime, with an aluminum unibody, fingerprint sensor and 250 euro price-tag.

Wiko is not a company that is synonymous with the smartphone world. A small French manufacturer, they’ve only just started branching out to different market. We visited their booth back at Mobile World Congress last year and got a hands-on with some of their handsets; the result was surprisingly positive.

Today at IFA 2016, the company has announced their latest addition to the range. The Wiko U Feel Prime will initially go on sale in Germany for 250 Euros, with other markets expected to follow. No word on exact release dates yet.

Wiko U Feel Prime packs a lot in

Finished in all metal, it bucks the trend of budget handsets typically using a plastic poly-carbonate body. With 4GB RAM and a 5-inch 1080p screen, you’re also getting quite a bit of hardware considering the price. It uses the latest budget Qualcomm chipset, the Snapdragon 430, which is only just rolling out to devices now. Sporting the latest Harvard architecture and an octa-core setup, it sits just behind the mid-range 650 in terms of overall power. The Snapdragon 420 was used on pretty much every solid budget handset released a few years ago, including the excellent Motorola Moto G series.

Aside from this, the Wiko U Feel Prime ships with a solid 13 megapixel rear camera sensor and 8 megapixel front camera. There’s also dual-SIM on board, with the second slot doubling as a microSD reader.

Out of the box, it’ll come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow with My Launcher; Wiko’s own skin. There’s also 4GB connectivity and a fingerprint sensor, with app launch support, which is always nice to see on cheaper devices. It’ll be available in Anthracite, Silver and Gold variants.
