WhatsApp plays catchup, enables voice messaging

WhatsApp is catching up to other messaging services with the release of voice messaging, which is currently rolling out to all platforms — including Windows Phone.

When you enter the messaging interface you will now notice a microphone symbol next to the text box. All you need to do to start recording is to press and hold the icon whilst the sound is recorded, when you’re done, let go and the message will send.

We got it working on the Lumia 925 we have in the office, and it was also working on Android and iOS platforms, although we’re hearing reports that some users have yet to receive the update.

WhatsApp announced yesterday that it had reached 300 million global users, so it’s evident that the company is hoping to hold on to users who may be inclined to leave the service for competitors, such as Voxer.
