It seems like an age since BlackBerry announced the availability of Blackberry Messenger for Android and iOS, but still we’ve yet to hear an official date. Whilst BlackBerry twiddles its thumbs over messaging services have been able to extend their lead.
Now it looks like Android users who have been hoping to use BBM might not have to wait for much longer — as long as you live in Africa.
According to N4BB Samsung has confirmed the arrival of the app for African markets, saying it is coming “soon”. Although it went one step further with Samsung seemingly confirming a “messaging hub” which will include BBM functionality.
What this exactly means remains to be seen, it could be a BB10/Windows Phone-esque one, or it could be something completely different — we’ll have to wait and see.
Despite Samsung having its own chat application, ChatOn, it seems fully committed to promoting BBM quite significantly. This could be just for the African market, with the company saying that it has reached “a joint marketing effort to showcase BBM for Android to customers and to mobile users across Africa.”
If like us, you reside anywhere else in the world, then it seems we’re being forced to wait just a little longer for BBM to come to other platforms.
Are you a BBM fan or are you committed to another messaging service? Let us know in the comments.
