Google’s Project Tango tablet – which boasts advanced 3D vision capabilities – is now official, with the company announcing a prototype for developers.

The specs for the 7-inch compact slate include a Nvidia Tegra K1 processor, a 1080p display, a stock version of Android 4.4 KitKat, 4GB RAM and 128 GB storage.

The real talking point, however, is the device’s 3D mapping technology. The tablet comes with two built-in motion tracking cameras along with integrated depth sensing, which Google claims allow the tablet to take precise 3D images of objects.

The front-facing camera has a 120-degree viewing angle, there’s a 4MP rear camera with 2 micrometer pixels and a motion-tracking rear camera with integrated depth sensor.

The Project Tango slate also supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy and some models will feature 4G LTE support.

Currently, the device is meant for developers, scientists, and other research-oriented groups.

Due to its advanced imaging tech, the device is currently priced at $1,024 and will be available by the end of this month from the Google Play store.

Earlier this year, Google also announced its Project Tango for smartphones with similar depth perception technology that can measure the dimensions of its surroundings.
