This won’t come as much of a surprise to anyone, but an industry analyst is expecting tablets to grow massively in worldwide shipments this year while PCs will continue to decline. So, yes, tablets still dominate PCs and that’s not likely to change any time soon.
Gartner expects to see tablet shipments grow by 42.7 percent by the end of the year, which is equal to 184 million units. PC shipments are said to be down 11.2 percent from 2012, with 303,100 units shipped. The company had originally predicted a 7.3 percent decline.
But there’s aren’t the only sectors seeing change, and tablets still dominate other markets. The ultra mobile category, consisting of light laptops and portables using desktop OSs will decline by 8.4 percent. In fact the analysts even suggest that, by 2017, tablets will be out shipping both this category and PCs combined.
Again, this is hardly surprising, but don’t expect to see tablet fatigue hit the market any time soon.
