BBM iOS, Android has finally arrived, requires waiting list

The long, long wait is over. BBM iOS and Android has finally hit, and is available to download for free right now… sort of.

You can currently sign up for a waiting list to be able to use the app. It’s been put in place so that BlackBerry can manage the demand for the app in balance with the servers, and make sure nothing gives way. It’s a bit frustrating to have these restrictions put in place, but the last thing BlackBerry needs right now its another messy launch.

Those who signed up at bbm.com in the first place won’t have to wait. Once you’re through, you can access the app and enter your email, which will then allow you to move on to all the chatting goodness.

This marks the end of a long, long saga for the company, which said it would release the app all the way back in May. Bugs and imitations have kept the company from releasing the cross-platform service for a long time. Now that it’s here, it faces stiff competition from the likes of WhatsApp, meaning it might not be quite the success story that BlackBerry was hoping for.

Will you be using BBM iOS or Android?
