Nvidia has confirmed that it is working closely with Microsoft on a second generation Surface RT, but not before blaming disappointing Tegra revenue on Windows RT.

It’s already well known that Microsoft is working on next generation Surface tablets, with Microsoft Steve Ballmer confirming as much during a company town hall-type meeting. However it was speculated that rather than using an Nvidia chip, the company had switched to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.

Now in an interview with CNET, Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has confirmed that the company is working with Microsoft to ensure that the mistakes of the first generation Surface RT aren’t repeated.

Huang had long believed that the problem with the sales were the fact that Outlook was not included, a “killer app for Windows” — a problem which has since been resolved with Windows RT 8.1.

In the company’s earnings report, Jen Hsun-Huang indirectly blamed Windows RT for not performing as well as expected, although failed to explicitly name it. He does however remain committed to the operating system’s success, and Nvidia has largely been reliant on Android for its Tegra division.
