Continuing the recent run of Android updates, Sony Mobile has officially announced that its Xperia P Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone can now be updated to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS.

The Xperia P is a good, feature-packed handset that offers great value for money. When we reviewed it, its lack of the Android 4.0 OS was one of the flaws that we felt held it back, though, so this is a welcome update.

While the update is officially ready, availability on your handset will depend on which network you’re with and which region you live in. But updates are scheduled to roll out to all handsets over the next few weeks.

As soon as an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is available for your Xperia P, you’ll receive a notification on your phone, so you can download the new OS right away to your Android phone.

And it’s not just the Xperia P that Sony Mobile is updating. Sony has confirmed that Android 4.0 updates for the Xperia U, Xperia Sola and Xperia Go are on the way too, although no official date has been confirmed.
