Shut down the hipster with our top apps of the week

Our top apps for this week!

Apps are the reason why we love our smartphones so much, it’s like having tons of useful little assistants at your beck and call. So why not recruit some new ones to get you through the week!

Muzeit (iOS only)

muzeit

Muzeit is a music sharing and discovery app for iOS which allows people to see what your friends are listening to, what they are downloading, and what they have in the music collections they store on their phone.

If you got a friend who’s constantly in the know for the latest music, Muzeit helps you keep up with him/her! Muzeit scans your iTunes library and compiles it all into your profile. Those that you’ve added as friends are then able to peruse over your tracks (better delete Barbie Girl before you download). An excellent app to tell your hipster mate that you have indeed heard of that band.

Spoon Guru (iOS only)

Having a special dietary requirement can be a pain when it comes to eating out and food shopping, Spoon Guru is here save you from that pain. Spoon Guru can find out if (bad example) a bar of Snickers is going to aggravate your nut allergy and kill you.

It does this with the integrated bar code scanner, so no more pressing grocery close to your face to read tiny print. Spoon Guru is also helpful at home, suggesting recipes that suit your dietary requirements. It isn’t an internal treasure trove of recipes, rather external links. Still very handy if you want to try something new and… not die.

Google Keyboard 5.0 (Android only)

While this may not be a new app, the 5.0 update is worth a mention. As a Google Keyboard user the improvements are noticeable straightaway with the superior accuracy and softer haptic feedback.

A few new fancy features have been included in the latest update. You can now drag your finger along the space bar to move the cursor left or right. Swiping back from the delete button will delete entire words. Some welcomed UI changes are included: relocated emoji key, number pad section, adjustable height and on-handed mode.

Splitwise (Android and iOS)

splitwise

Eating out with friends should be an enjoyable experience. It usually is until the hassle of paying comes lurking. Working out who pays what and what is owed can be an agonising experience, but it doesn’t have to be anymore.

Splitwise is aptly named and should be a staple on your home screen. You can sign in with your Google account so no faffing around. Not only can you work out bills but comments can also be added to remind you who had that extra glass of prosecco.

Quik (Android and iOS)

quik

GoPro has released an editing app and you don’t need a GoPro to use it! There are plenty of video editing apps but not many are as seamless as Quik.

Effects can be easily added to your videos: transitions, effects, filters, even a backing track can be added for comedic effect. For those that want to be the new Jack Jones, but with a bit more pizazz, Quik is the way to go.
