Vodafone are now offering free roaming but only new and upgrading customers can take advantage.
Recently roaming charges have been cut down by as much as 70% by the European Union, and will abolish the charges completely by 2017. Vodafone has joined rival Three in offering free roaming, in over 40 countries, including those not covered by EU regulations such as Turkey and Switzerland.
Those who want inclusive roaming for calls, texts, and up to 4GB of data will have to take out Vodafone’s pay monthly 12 and 24 month Red and Red Value bundles. Unlimited free picture messages is also included, and more importantly, data allowances will NOT be throttled.
How much is it?
Prices for Vodafone’s new 12 month SIM only bundles start from £9.50 per month and inclusive roaming starts at £18 per month. It is also available on a handset deal. Vodafone gave an example of a Huawei P9 on its 1GB Red Bundle for £28 a month (with £10 upfront cost).
Speaking to Mobile News, new Vodafone commercial director Glafkos Persiani said: “Our customers made it clear to us that they wanted the freedom to use their phones worry free whilst abroad and we have listened – so now, all new and upgrading Red pay monthly customers will be able to stay in touch with their loved ones easily whilst they’re on holiday.”
It seems that Vodafone didn’t listen clearly, as not all of their customers will be on the scheme. Those who get to upgrade before your holiday count your lucky stars.
Three also include free roaming, through its Feel At Home bundle, but only in 18 countries including the U.S.
Popular destinations included Vodafone’s free roaming include France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. A full list can be found here.
