Samsung Galaxy S6: Flip-phone edition unveiled

A new flip-phone from Samsung has just passed through Chinese certification authority TENAA.

It’s no secret that the Chinese market loves flip-phones; this is proven by the fact that companies such as Samsung continue to release said devices there. Today, the company has unintentionally revealed a new device that looks an awful lot like a flip-phone Galaxy S6. Codename SM-W2016, the handset passed through TENAA certification and contains some surprisingly flagship-level specifications.

Inside is the same Exynos 7420 SoC, 3GB of RAM, 16-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera found on the regular S6. Screen size is 3.9 inches and the panel is a SAMOLED variant with a 1280 x 768 resolution. The device will run on Android 5.1.1 and won’t ship with the newer Marshmallow variant. In an interesting addition, it features a screen on both the outside and inside of the device… Which could make for some unique UI navigation.

We’ll probably never see this device outside of China, let alone in the UK. Still, it’s kind of funny to see that the old flip-phone design is alive and well.
