YouTube user XEETECHCARE performed a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 drop test with an early version of the handset, showcasing the strength of Gorilla Glass 5.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is the first handset to ship with Gorilla Glass 5 and as such, it has quite a few tricks up its sleeve. Corning has said that in lab tests, Gorilla Glass 5 can survive in up to 80 percent of cases when dropped face-down from 1.6 meters onto rough surfaces, far outperforming competitive glass designs.”

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for a video to pop-up online with one lucky YouTube user volunteering to put the handset through its paces. After several tests where the handset was dropped from multiple angles (including face down), the results speak for themselves.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 survived largely unhurt, screen intact. There was also a distinct lack of any scratches on the panel itself, showing that Gorilla Glass 5 is definitely a marked improvement over the fourth iteration. Obviously, to really see the difference, you need to drop both versions side-by-side for a true comparison.
