Samsung Chairman talks up software, downplays hardware for future

Samsung chairman Lee Kun-hee has echoed recent stories about the company shifiting focus to software.

In his annual new year speech Lee encouraged his employees to focus on software in an attempt to rid the company of old business models. Change will apparently require ‘non-stop’ work from the company’s R&D department, half of which the company recently devoted to software.

What will come of the renewed focus is yet to be seen. Samsung has already announced one piece of new hardware this week and plenty more is expected in the coming months. It would certainly be nice is the company could start competing heavily in the apps sector, rather than drowning users in Android add-ons.

What do you make of the Samsung chairman’s comments?
