Petition launched for Apple to keep headphone jack

Over 200,000 people have signed a petition urging Apple to retain the headphone jack for the next iteration of the iPhone.

Rumours of Apple omitting the features has been circulating the internet for months and it seems to have gotten to a point where it can seriously happen. From a design point of view it would make sense as freeing any device from a headphone jack would slim it down noticeably. From an Apple point of view, this could mean selling a few wireless Beats headphones.

Organisers of the petition accuse Apple of playing from the “Apple corporate playbook.” The organisers go on to say “a few years ago it swapped out the original iPod-dock connector with a new one, making countless cords, cables and chargers obsolete.”

The petition has surpassed its goal of 210,000 signatures. At the time of writing the total was at 217,056. Whether this will actually sway Apple to keep the jack (if they are omitting it in the first place), remains to be seen. Apple sells millions every year and it cannot be clarified whether all signees of the petition will be buying the next iPhone come Autumn.
