Nexus phones to get Android update guarantee?

With operating systems such as Android now an important part of our smartphone purchase, many consumers worry that their device will become outdated if it doesn’t receive the latest updates. There’s nothing more frightening for an Android user than running a device that still hasn’t made the jump from Gingerbread.

If the latest rumour reported by Android police is anything to go by, it seems Google could soon be doing away with that anxiety. Apparently, Android M Nexus devices will be guaranteed to get updates for two years after release and older devices such as the Nexus 5 and 6 will also be honoured. This means that your old Nexus 5 may well be in line to receive the new mobile OS when it goes live. Perhaps just as important, Google are also guaranteeing security updates for 3 years or 18 months after purchase.

As if the lure of a pure Android experience wasn’t enough, this is another big egg in the Nexus basket of treats. Giving users peace of mind that their phone will not fade into immediate obscurity is sure to attract people away from competitors devices. Expect to hear more about Android M and the new guarantee pledge on the 28-29th May.
