Need money for an iPhone? One Chinese couple allegedly sold their daughter

What lengths are you prepared to go to to buy an iPhone? Hopefully not the lengths that one young Chinese couple were willing to go to, with them both now facing criminal charges for “selling” their daughter.

According to Liberation Daily, the couple are accused of human trafficking, putting their third child up online for adoption, but with the catch that someone will have to pay them to receive the child.

When authorities investigated these claims, they found that the mother had used the money she got from the sale to buy a brand new iPhone, as well as high-end sports shoes and other items.

This isn’t the first time that people have gone to extreme lengths to get an Apple product in China, with the brand being very popular in China. Just last year a teenager sold a kidney to buy both an iPad and iPhone.

The couple in question deny human trafficking and insist that the baby was given away in order to guarantee a better upbringing than they could afford — with two children already putting a financial strain on them.

It’s not known how much the baby went for, but reports claim that it could be as much as 30,000 yuan to 50,000 yuan, which translates to around $4,900 to $8,200.
