New iteration improves camera and chipset, adds glass design and 5G
Just 10 months on from its first crack at a foldable phone, Motorola has unveiled a new iteration of its Razr refresh, with an improved camera, chipset and 5G capability.
Running Android Android 10 on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage, the phone has a 2,800mAh battery. The RAM and battery size are both upgrades on the 2019 Razr’s 6GB and 2,510mAh.
Key design differences from its predecessor include a glass housing, a tapered chin, and more rounded corners.
Additionally, Motorola has moved the fingerprint sensor to the back of the device, just under the hinge.
According to the manufacturer, the phone is water-repellent, but not waterproof, and has been designed to last a total of 200,000 flips, equating to around five years’ use.
The screen size is the same as last year’s Razr, at 6.2 inches unfolded and a 2.7-inch cover screen. However, Motorola will let any app run on the cover display while the phone is folded.
Furthermore, the rear camera has been upgraded from 16MP to 48MP with optical image stabilisation, while the front camera has jumped from 5MP to 20MP.
The Razr 5G will be available in the UK for £1,399 in Polished Graphite, Liquid Mercury, and Blush Gold colours, with a precise date yet to be announced.
While the previous version was only available through Motorola’s website and EE, the new model has several retailer and operator partnerships.
The Polished Graphite version will be at O2, Vodafone, Tesco, John Lewis, Amazon, Carphone Warehouse and on motorola.co.uk, while Liquid Mercury and Blush Gold will be exclusively at motorola.co.uk.
