Mobile publisher Gameloft unveils its E3 2014 lineup, including new Asphalt and Modern Combat titles

E3’s exciting and all, but traditionally has been a little on the skimpy side for mobile gamers. If ever you wanted a sign that the mobile landscape is shifting for the better, though, then you’ll be pleased to know that mobile publishing giant Gameloft has its own booth at this year’s show. What’s more, it’s just unveiled its lineup for the coming months.

The games will be shown in full later today, and are set to include some exciting new titles as well as some sequels to a couple of very popular franchises. The most notable names at the top of the list are Asphalt and Modern Combat.

Asphalt Overdrive is the first spinoff of one of the best racing series on mobile. What exactly does a spinoff of an arcade game look like, you ask? Gameloft describes it as ‘an intense and original mission-based arcade driving game’. It’s got an air of the classic arcade car chase games of the OutRun era about it, which can only be a good thing. Set in the 1980’s you power around California’s scenic highways in fully-licensed supercars, dodging the 5-0 and challenging bosses as you go.

Modern Combat 5: Blackout is a bit more familiar. It’s now more modern and more combative than ever, with better graphics and a brand new number on the end of it. Still, as anyone who’s played the series will attest, it’ll probably be the best FPS on mobile bar none.

UPDATE:  We’ve got a teaser trailer! As predicted, there’s big guns and some outrageously nice graphics.

Spider-Man Unlimited  sounds a lot more intriguing. Rather than being tied-in to one of the movies, Unlimited takes stories and characters from the entirety of Spidey’s 50-year history. There’s going to be more than 23 playable characters too, so it’s unclear as yet just what the gameplay will entail. The Sinister Six will feature heavily though, that much we do know, as well as it being episodic. See?  Intriguing!

UPDATE:  It’s looking a bit like an endless runner, with some web-slinging and action thrown in. The first trailer is below, see what you think.

Rival Knights  has already garnered a fair bit of publicity, thanks mainly to its original concept and gorgeous visuals. It’s a jousting simulator. If that’s not enough to make you want to download it then we don’t know what is. There’s challenges, plus online multiplayer too. It’s a concept so great that we’re not sure why it’s never been attempted before. It’s out already on Android and iOS and, what’s more, it’s free. So do yourself a favour and give it a go.

Dungeon Gems has been kept very hush-hush so far. All we know from the teaser trailer  is that it’s a puzzle-RPG hybrid, with a seriously Warcraftian art style to it. Hey, if you’re going to draw your inspiration from anywhere, it may as well be from the best.

There’s a host of other titles, including kids favourites Cars: Fast as Lightning and Ice Age Adventures, so there should be something for everyone. Be sure to check back on this page later today as we’ll keep it updated with images and videos as they become available from E3 2014.
