Microsoft is reportedly working on an Android dialer app that is undergoing testing in developing markets.

Microsoft has been pretty busy recently. Not content with releases a bunch of new devices and hardware, the Redmond tech giant has now turned its sights squarely on the competition. Alongside the custom launcher and Cortana applications, Microsoft is now working on a dedicated dialer app for the Android operating system. The application is currently being tested in India and is fairly self explanatory, acting as an overlay for the dialling portion of the OS.

Reportedly developed by the guys behind Skype, it features the unique ability to dial contacts using slower data connections such as 2G and 3G. The only catch is that both parties need the app installed for it to work. It’s not yet confirmed whether this will a Skype-based experience, though were assuming it could have some heavy integration since it’s coming from the same developers. Obviously, Microsoft are targeting the application at developing markets as a way to lure people into the Windows ecosystem.

The app is expected to release in the first half of December, though it could be available earlier in BETA form.
