Is this the upcoming Huawei Mate 8?

A Chinese website has leaked what appears to be first image of the upcoming Huawei Ascend Mate 8.

The leak comes courtesy of GizChina, a Chinese technology website specialising in smartphones and tablets. While the picture doesn’t exactly show much, it can be interpreted in one of two ways. Either this is the front of the device and it has an incredibly thin bezel, or this is actually the rear and it has a two-tone black/ silver paint scheme. The quality of the image suggests that it’s a press photograph, perhaps one that was intended to be used alongside it’s expected launch at IFA in September.

Our own hunch suggests that it’s probably the latter, as the Ascend line is usually cost-effective. The Mate 8 is already expected to carry some huge specifications, including the flagship Kirin 950 processor and a Quad HD screen. With up to 4GB RAM and a massive 20.7 megapixel camera, it really will be a monster among flagships. To also include a bezel-less screen which curves at the edges would surely bump up the retail price by a considerable amount. Still, it looks like the device will feature a combination of metal and plastic aesthetics, which should make it a very attractive purchase indeed.
