Apple iPhone 5S and 5C release date set for September 10?

Apple could have just set the release date for the iPhone 5S and 5C for September 10, according to a new report from All Things D.

The iPhone has seen its marketshare tumble from a high of 26% of the smartphone market in 2012 to a measly 13.2%. This could be attributed to the fact that the company hasn’t launched a new iPhone in well over a year, whereas its competitors have managed to squeeze out flagship after flagship in that same period.

It is rumoured that at the launch of the next iPhone, Apple is planning on announcing a cheaper plastic version, dubbed the iPhone 5C. It’s not yet known if this is the case, but with the mid-range market dominated by Android and to a lesser extent Windows Phone — it’d be a wise move by Apple’s leadership team.

The flagship iPhone has also received its fair share of rumour and speculation, with reports that it will feature a finger print scanner as well as speed improvements.

If the September 10 date is to be believed, then Apple is set to steal the thunder from Samsung — who already has an event planned for September 4. It will also come a day before the IFA 2013 is set to close, stealing the thunder from the many manufacturers who are set to make announcements at the electronics trade show.

The Galaxy Note 3 and HTC One Max are both set to be big attractions at IFA 2013, and Apple is known to steal the thunder from other events, including CES and MWC, in the past.

We already know that any new iPhones that are announced will feature iOS 7, an OS that has already been seeded to developers worldwide.

It’s also speculated that Apple is prepping an iPad Mini with Retina Display, but with rumours of a possible manufacturing delay — this may not be featured at the event.
