The iPhone 5s has been the same old success story for Apple, selling out across the globe at launch and pulling in huge sales figures. The iPhone 5c hasn’t been the same though, and now rumours are suggesting that the company will be cutting down on iPhone 5c production to pave the way for the 5s.
The Wall Street Journal reports as much, saying that Apple has asked its Chinese supplier to start cutting down on iPhone 5c production after slower than expected sales. That should make way for additional production on the 5s, which will help meet current demand for the device.
This news isn’t all that surprising. When Apple revealed its new phones in September many were disappointed with the price point of the 5c, which starts at £469.99 SIM-free. It’s billed as the budget-line iPhone 5 but still holds a hefty price tag. Reports in September suggested that the 5s was outselling the 5c by some way.
Still, this doesn’t mean that the phone is anything like a failure, just maybe not the success the company had been hoping for. As for other Apple devices, another event for the iPad will be held on October 22nd.
