Angry Birds is easily the biggest gaming franchise to come out of apps. Since the first game we’ve seen sequels, spin-offs and even Star Wars branding for the Rovio-developed series, but now it’s time for something different. Kart racing.
Yep, Angry Birds: Go has been officially announced for release on just about every OS under the sun. It’s a 3D racer similar to the Mario Kart series. That basically means that it features upgradeable karts, and characters that can be armed with power-ups. It’s scheduled to launch as a free to play game, although the makers assured that it will have plenty of content for those not interested in in-app purchases. You’ll even be able to customise your kart’s looks.
Another unique feature is support for the Telepod device that launched with Angry Birds Star Wars II. In other words, you can scan in your physical Angry Birds toys and play as them in the game.
At the time of writing Angry Birds: Go is being made for iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10, and will be launching on December 11th. A trailer for the game can be seen above. We’re sure it will sell stacks and stacks.
