Surprise, surprise ‘ the iPad mini 2 is real. Or, rather, the new iPad mini is.

Apple announced the smaller tablet at its press event today. The device includes the A7 chip and does indeed have the Retina display finally built in, after endless rumours. It keeps the 7.9 inch form factor that we’ve seen before.

It’s CPU is said to be four times faster than the original iPad mini, with graphics that are eight times as fast.

The new device starts at $399. The standard model comes in 16Gb, 32GB, 64Gb and 128GB & will run you $399, $499, $599, and $699 respectively. It’s launching later in November, but there’s no confirmed date. We guess this means there really has been supply issues with the new device, meaning it might not be widely available until 2014.
