Huawei has today announced the P9 and P9 Plus to a packed audience in London.
The P9 includes a metal unibody design with 2.5D glass on the front and dual rear cameras with Leica lenses. There is no visible camera bump on the rear and the camera is capable of Hybrid Focus for altering the image in post-processing. The edges of the device are curved, helping it to feel much more comfortable when in the hand. It’s also only 6.95mm thick, making it thinner than both the Galaxy S7 and iPhone 6s. Huawei boldly stated that the P9 has a ‘best in class’ display, with a higher screen to body ratio than the iPhone 6s (not exactly a huge feat). The 5.2 inch full hd display has 96% colour saturation and 500nits of rated brightness, making it a better panel (at least on paper) than the iPhone 6s.
The included processor will be the Kirin 955, a 2.5GHz octa-core flagship chipset. Both the P9 and P9 Plus will be the same aside from screen size and battery life. The P9 Plus will include a larger 3,600mAh battery and 5.5-inch Press Touch display. It will also offer dual-IC Rapid Charge for up to six hours of talk-time on just a 10 minute charge.
The Huawei P9 will be available in Mystic Silver and Titanium Grey from mid April. It’s priced at £449 for the 32GB model and will be available to buy in the UK from Carphone Warehouse, EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. The 64GB Huawei P9 Plus will be exclusively sold through Vodafone in Quartz Grey for £549.
