Huawei are finally rolling out the impressive and sleek laptop/tablet MateBook to the UK, with a competitive starting price of £749.

Huawei are making big steps into the UK market having released the impressive Huawei P9 with a massive marketing campaign behind it, and now dropping the brand new MateBook on our laps. Why is the new 2-in-1 device worthy of your attention? It’s a laptop that can also act as a tablet, and is arguably great value for money.

Your new mate the MateBook

The MateBook is Huawei’s first Windows device, with a starting price of £749. This makes the 2-in-1 cheaper than the Microsoft Surface Book (£1,299) and Samsung Galaxy TabPro S (£849). Although there are significantly more affordable Windows laptop/tablets such as the Dell Inspiron 13 7000 (£699) and HP Pavilion x2 (£219.99).

Huawei seemed to have found a happy middle, between price and quality with its new device. It’s a premium feeling device built from the same aluminium seen on the Huawei P9. Another impressive P9 featured ported over is a fingerprint sensor wedged between the volume keys. Powering the show is an Intel Core M3 processor (base model), not exactly a beast but good enough to carry out your daily work duties. Its also capable of booting up immediately thanks to the solid-state drive, which is in all variations of the MateBook.

Thankfully Huawei are including the keyboard attachment for the UK release (after much backlash), but the MatePen has not been included. The MatePen isn’t even available to buy yet, Huawei are currently in discussion with retail partners, so we should be seeing it soon.

Only two variations of the hybrid will be made available, with the top-end 5125GB SSD model not seeing a release here in the UK. Here are the variations available.

MateBook M3

  • Intel Core M3 processor
  • 4GB RAM
  • 128GB SSD storage

MateBook M5

  • Intel Core M5 processor
  • 8GB RAM
  • 256GB SSD storage

You can get your hands on the Huawei MateBook at Currys, the M3 is £749, while the M5 is £999. Only Champagne Gold is available.
