HTC One M8 Windows Phone edition specs leak – it’s the exact same as its Android sibling

In case you missed the big, Windows Phone-shaped news, HTC’s outstanding One M8 handset is soon to be gracing store shelves as a Windows Phone handset. Don’t worry, HTC isn’t abandoning its pride and joy – this will actually be a separate release.

We haven’t known much about it up until this point, although we naturally assumed the handset would remain identical save for a change of operating system. A recent leak of the new device’s specifications confirms those suspicions. The Windows Phone edition of the HTC One M8 will be the exact same handset as its Android counterpart. That means you get a 5-inch, 1080p full-HD display, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage with up to 128GB available via microSD card. HTC’s divisive UltraPixel rear camera remains, too.

Perhaps some WP fans may have been hoping for an update – maybe a shiny new Snapdragon 805 processor, but there’s no need to get greedy. Let’s not forget that the One M8 is our favourite Android handset of all time, and in our opinion the best on the market right now. If it can beat out all of that incredibly strong Android competition, there’s no reason to think that it couldn’t be the best Windows Phone handset, too.

HTC has even got it working with the Dot-View Case, although we don’t know just how its functionality will vary (if at all) from Android. One unfortunate downside to all this is the rumoured price: word on the street is that it’ll set you back £119 on a two-year contract. That’s twice as much as its Android clone.

It’s expected that it’ll be unveiled on August 19th at HTC’s big event in New York, so we’ll know all there is to know this time next week. For now, Windows Phone fans can keep themselves occupied by checking out our review of the Nokia Lumia 930, and attempting to make the excruciating decision of which they’d rather purchase.
