The Honor 5X Marshmallow update is a massive welcome to those who took the chance and bought the excellent budget handset.
Honor has confirmed Marshmallow will roll out today for all Honor 5X devices in over-the-air updates. Meaning you don’t have to do anything, just wait patiently while it comes in. Have a drink or something while you wait. The update also comes with EMUI 4.0, Huawei’s latest Android skin.
The Honor 5X launched last year offering a rear-facing fingerprint sensor on a device that will only set you back £160. It also has a gorgeous 5.5-inch IPS full HD display, massive 3,000mAh battery, dual-SIM slot, 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, 5-megapixel selfie shooter and a Snapdragon 616 processor (615 for North America).
Honor 5X Marshmallow’s soft sugary goodness
Honor 5X users can now enjoy the life saving Doze Mode which puts your device in a stasis mode that will save precious battery life. When your device is not used for a long period of time apps will run in a low power mode to ensure you don’t wake up to a dead phone.
Google Now On Tap will also be on tap, providing smart searches and commands. Volume controls also saw a improvement, now more customisable to differentiate media and ring volume levels.
EMUI 4.0 brings unique features to Honor and Huawei devices. You can take advantage of motion control. Activate motion control by tapping the screen with your knuckle and draw for example the letter ‘M’ to launch the music player. The drop down notifications shortcut allows you to switch out toggle shortcuts such as: NFC, GPS and mobile data.
The update is rolling out now. If you haven’t been prompted for the update, go to settings > update and check for the update to begin downloading.
