Following on from the successful Honor 4C announced last year, the Huawei spin-off brand has just announced its newest budget handset, the Honor 5C.
The device improves on 2015’s Honor 4C in pretty much every way, with a higher resolution display and improved camera. Constructed in a full aerospace aluminium uni-body, the 5C has an incredibly clean appearance with no obvious antenna lines unless you look to the very edges.
The screen comes in at 5.2 inches with a 1080p resolution, which at this price-point is quite unusual. Honor was pushing the new 16nm Kirin 650 pretty heavily during their virtual presentation, which is backed up by 2GB RAM and uses the more powerful smart core i5 technology as opposed to the usual i3. This architecture is comprised of four high power cores and four low power cores, which aim to give the best of both power and efficiency.
Honor 5C: Smaller chip, better performance
Honor claim that this new processor array gives performance boost up to 65% better versus older 28nm chipsets and that battery life can outperform and iPhone 6s. We reckon that the hefty 3,000mAh battery probably has a little more influence on this than the processor itself but it’s still an impressive claim.
The company also seems to have been hard at work improving the camera, which was probably the most widely praised feature on the last generation 4C. Megapixel count remains the same at 13, however the manufacturer has added extra features such as wide-angle macro support and Flash HDR for more dynamic images. For the front shooter, things have been bumped up significantly, with an 8 megapixel sensor and f/2.0 aperture for improved low-light shots.
The Honor 5c will be available from today through their own Vmall.eu eshop and select other retail partners for just £149. You’ll be getting the newest EMUI 4.1, which initially debuted on the Huawei P9 earlier this year. Considering what they’ve managed to cram in, it seems like an absolute bargain. You’ll be able to get it in three colours: Space Silver, Sunset Gold and Dark Grey. Handsets are due to start shipping before the end of the week, so look out for a review real soon.
