Vodafone has announced that its budget VR monster, the Vodafone Smart Platinum 7, is now available to purchase from today.
The device can be bought directly from their online store at www.vodafone.co.uk, with a pay monthly charge starting at £28 plus £20 upfront cost. If you’d prefer to buy it upfront, it’ll cost you around £295, which puts it in the same price bracket as the recently announced OnePlus 3. While the latter may be more powerful, the Smart Platinum 7 arguably trumps it if you’re looking for a solid VR smartphone.
What’s more enticing is the fact that if users purchase the handset, they will also get a free Vodafone virtual reality headset bundled in, meaning you can make the jump to VR straight away.
Vodafone Smart Platinum 7: Smart Power
The handset has already peaked our attention due to the hardware they’ve managed to pack inside. Powered by a Snapdragon 652, it has plenty of power for VR applications and is backed up by a solid 3GB RAM. The Snapdragon 652 itself is a strong chipset, benchmarking almost on the same level as the 810. They’ve also managed to cram in a high resolution AMOLED UHD panel, giving it the desired resolution for what is expected from virtual reality devices.
Elsewhere, there’s still plenty to be had from the otherwise cheap pricetag. You’ll find a 16 megapixel shooter on the rear with f/2.0 aperture and an impressive 8 megapixel front shooter, perfect for selfies. This is in addition to a hefty 3,000mAh battery, putting it in the same league as a lot of flagships currently on the market.
