A Capcom developer has claimed that PlayStation 4 and Xbox One games take as long as ten times the development time of PS3 and 360 games.

Capcom senior manager of technology management, Masaru Ijuin, said as much in a Capcom developer Q&A.

“We believe MT Framework is a powerful rendering engine,” Ijuin said of Capcom’s last-gen engine. “But it’s clear that heightened game quality leads to a rise in the number of man hours.

“The amount of work involved in making games for next-gen consoles is eight to ten times greater than what is required for the current generation of consoles.”

As such, the company is using its new Panta Rhei engine on next-gen games. The first of these is the PS4-exclusive Deep Down, a free-to-play online RPG.

How will these proposed increases in dev times affect upcoming games?
