A BlackBerry FCC filing has been picked up, and it could be one of BlackBerry’s next three smartphones that are rumoured to be coming this year.
BlackBerry CEO John Chen gave his company the ultimatum of turning around the smartphone division, or face the axe. Chen also promised a new smartphone by September and it looks like BlackBerry are turning up a gear to get it out, judging by the recent FCC filing.
With the FCC filing in motion we’re not far off from launch, the doomsday deadline of September will most likely be met. Now for the fun bit, the filing reveals some details about the new device. Disappointingly it’s not the expected power house Rome (formerly Argon), but instead it’s the Hamburg (formerly Neon).
BlackBerry are looking to release their mid-range device first, a move that can be deemed as tactical as the iPhone 7 is expected in the same month, with new Google Nexus devices to follow after.
The FCC filing confirmed TCL will be creating the Hamburg. TCL also manufactures smartphones under the Alcatel brand. Also in the filing is the confirmation of a 2,610 mAh battery, the same on the Alcatel Idol 4. If that wasn’t familiar enough the one leaked image of the Hamburg shows a device that looks incredibly similar to the Alctael Idol 4.
Could it just be a rebranded Idol 4?
According to rumours this could possible the final spec list for the Hamburg:
Spec for spec it’s the same as the Idol 4. We do hope rumours prove to be wrong as BlackBerry could be tripping at the starting line.
