During a financial analyst meeting yesterday, Steve Ballmer revealed that Microsoft has been the most profitable tech company in the last 10 years, beating Google, IBM and even Apple.

Whilst it’s financials haven’t been so rosy in the last five years, with Apple taking that spot, Microsoft has made $220 billion in the last 10 years, whilst Apple has only made $175 billion.

Steve Ballmer may be pleased that Microsoft is still making “a ton of money” but he also said that the low market share in some markets such as mobile was a “missed opportunity.”

One of the highlights of the meeting was Steve Ballmer’s emotional farewell to the company, a company he has been CEO of since taking over from Bill Gates in 2000. The company said that it had no update on who Ballmer’s replacement will be, but it’s widely rumoured that former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop will take his place at the top.
